Community Action of Minneapolis serves the community in so many different ways. Not only is the Ben & Jerry's program a great asset, so are the many other services that are provided. Energy service is a great program that is set up to help those who may not be able to afford their heating costs. Nobody deserves to be left out in the cold no matter their circumstances and as all Minnesotans know, winters here can be long and harsh.
Another service that is provided is through the Weatherization department. Here, staff go out to peoples' homes and conduct inspections to see if the house could use some new insulation for instance, in order for the furnace to run more efficiently. Weatherization also offers new furnaces and appliances for those in need.
In our Children and Family Services department, staff hold many different workshops and teach classes weekly about issues that families deal with everyday. The staff teach everything from having healthy relationships to managing finances.
In the end Community Action of Minneapolis is such a great asset for the community. We are following President Johnson's vow to fight the War on Poverty. The staff here is committed to help stop the viscous cycle poverty causes and to help those who have fallen into poverty, but are ready to break free. We hope that through our programs people who participate can become self sufficient and will join us for the fight to end poverty.
